The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art

Nelson-Atkins is a must see museum in Kansas City. The grounds and grandeur of the museum are breathtaking as well as the inside. The main museum is free and houses a wide variety of art. If you wish to see their featured exhibit you do have to pay for their pricey ticket unless you are a Nelson-Atkins "member," which may benefit you if you frequent the museum. You will easily spend hours here because there is so much to see. Break up your visit with some food at the cafe or plan a picnic on the grounds. The museum always has free events going on, especially for kids and families, so plan ahead and enjoy!

The Nelson-Atkins is a world class gem of a museum. The collection is fascinating. The museum hosts great travelling exhibitions. The sculpture park is a great destination for a lazy day. Rozelle Court is a treat - both the food and the ambience. There is an abundance of programs for all ages, both members and nonmembers. And it's all free! (Except the parking for nonmembers.)

One can smell the ancient past here & it is so welcoming! You could easily spend a month discovering every corner of this jewell, and you would still be surprised! The Nelson has one of the most famous & extensive collections of Chinese art in the world. Free docent tours make it easy to learn intimate details of the art collected here. From African, Asian, American, contemporary & Ancient, you'll find something here to soothe or excite your soul and senses.

Always a great experience! Excellent exhibits that would blow your mind for a smaller market city, that rivals major metropolitan cities. Great events are held there also like the light show outside. The building itself is awesome. Plus the staff is excellent, more than friendly and informative!

Medium-sized museum, with an almost standard selection of art. One might almost observe. That said: everything is displayed in a beautiful, pleasant manner. The thematic structure of the museum is unusual and VERY nice. The atmosphere is very relaxed (no hissing security staff, no stress at all), it was quiet (on a Sunday afternoon!?!) and the building is big but still delicate and enjoyable. I loved it. And then the contents. Some of the art is special and rare. Both the European and the American collections are outstanding. The Asian things are less so but still very nice.
