Story

Welcome! Are you ready to R.E.A.D with us? Create a life-long love of books and boost your child's literacy skills - all through creative play!

WHAT IS READ?

READ (Reading Enrichment and Development) New Orleans is a dynamic early literacy program built around movement, music, acting, art, and themed activities. Through creative play, children develop their skills and bring books and language into their daily lives.

Literacy Awakenings:
Classes starting for babies from 4 to 11 months old and their parent/caregiver. Language exploration and a love of books is promoted through songs, fingerplays, sign language and books. We keep the classes interesting for the babies by incorporating lots of movement and tactile experiences throughout each class.

Literacy Beginnings:
These classes, designed for children aged 12 months to 5 years, promote language exploration and a foundation for reading through fingerplays, songs, sign language and books. Aware of child development, we plan classes around the interests and abilities of the different age groups.

Each week’s classes revolve around a different theme; themes include Dinosaurs, Pirates, and Earth Day. We read about the theme, act it, sing it, dance it, and even eat it for snack (pudding “dirt” and gummy worms when we’re reading about gardens)!

“As a parent, my favorite thing about READ is how much my kids look forward to a READ day!” — Aimee Adatto Freeman

“I love going upstairs to play. I love going to READ because of the stories. They made me want to learn how to read.” — Jake Nagle, 5
