"Family owned and operated for over two decades, the Penrose Diner is a local tradition of South Philadelphia. Many of our loyal customers have grown up enjoying our made-from-scratch soups, savory pot pies, and freshly baked cakes. They know us by name — and we know them.Over the years, the secret has gotten out: our food is the real deal. Unlike most diners, where food is often a microwaved afterthought, we make our menu fresh, from scratch, and we source local ingredients whenever we can.We care about food here!"

Up to date modern dinner. Great place to get breakfast and lunch. Like any diner, a lot on the menu and have specials. I had the Ruben sandwich and my friend had the half rack of ribs. It was all delicious and a great portion too. Not too much but not too little either. The waitress was on top of it and stopped by at the right times. I highly recommend checking out this place. Definitely will need to go back to get some breakfast or brunch here.
Good old American diner. Coffee is hot and solid. The wait staff is always nice and asking to top off coffee and providing solid service. Breakfast specials come with coffee home fries and toast! Gets pretty busy after 11.
Wanted a breakfast and wanted a spot for hat was going to serve alcohol and found this place. Initially I wasn’t to thrilled about going to a diner but OMG was I pleasantly surprised. We arrived and there was plenty of parking available and was greeted and seated immediately. We could tell that they have plenty of regulars as we heard the servers talking to people by name and remembering different things that they typically order. Our server was great, took our drink orders mimosas and came back with our drinks in regular size glasses no complaints here. Ordered the French toast deluxe French toast, sausage, ham and bacon as well as the steak and eggs. Boy was I amazed at the food. Everything came out hot and perfect. The steak was cooked perfectly and was seasoned so well that steak sauce wasn’t needed. The French toast was perfect; just the right amount of crunch to it and it wasn’t soggy. Diner food is typically good at most places but this actually surprised me, I wasn’t expecting the food to be this good. Will certainly be coming back.
We were at the Navy Yard and were looking for some place nearby to eat a late lunch, and the Penrose Diner was a fantastic find! Our salads were fresh and crisp and the desserts were absolutely delicious. One of us had stuffed shells for an entree the perfect ratio of sauce to cheese and the other had chicken croquettes with mashed potatoes and gravy consistent textures and flavors for this traditional diner dish. The staff was welcoming, friendly, and efficient. We will be back!
American Breakfast done right ! The price, the portions you will be full! and the service was all 5 star quality I ordered French toast side are sold separately bacon, Eggs with cheese. The other photo is of omelets and house fries. I also had a hot chocolate ask for milk, if you don’t like water. Our total was $45 everything in the photos plus 2 hot coco. The bacon was cooked in the middle not crispy but not too soft. If you are one person eating the French toast I recommend ordering 4. The 8 will feed 2-3 people. The service is also fast. We finished between 30-45 minutes Kid-friendliness: It’s a family friendly. Plenty of spaces to eat. They have the kid chairs as well. Parking: The parking is very limited. They have spots outside but if you come during the breakfast rush, spaces get full fast. So plan accordingly. We got there at 11am and there was literally one parking spot left. Which is the one we took
Great breakfast spot. Lots of food for the money. Eggs were a little soft for my liking and bacon could have been a little more crisp, BUT I was hungry so no worries. Super nice server. Parking lot is tiny and designed for little cars so be careful but I enjoyed my breakfast!
The service, & food was excellent. We were in and out in about 30 mins. Food came out so fast. The wait for 2 people, was no wait. We had pancakes, bacon, sausage, a waffle & eggs. It’s diner food so expect diner food.
Service was very good but that's pretty much the best part. Food was mediocre, and very small portions. I had to go somewhere else to eat afterwards. I got the chocolate cake which was not good, maybe if they had warmed it up it would've been better but it was cold. To be fair, I didn't ask them to warm it up but I kind of thought they would on their own. I didn't eat much of it as it was dry and fairly tasteless. They require masks still, I find that silly. I wouldn't return. Features: Masks required
The service was great and the food amazing! We came in on Sunday evening after being at the Eagle's game party of 12 were seated and fed quickly as we were ravenous! Great hot food, perfect service, mellow atmosphere and very clean accommodations! THANK U PENROSE DINER!...And the Eagle's WON!!!Dine in: YesOutdoor seating: NoTakeout: Yes
This was my first visit to the diner. Was there having breakfast with some old faces / friends from our FJD of PA City of Philadelphia, Court Warrant Unit. I arrived later than our scheduled time, but our server took care of me right away as if I'd been there the whole time. I had a breakfast wrap which was really good. Good food, good friends, great service. Thank you. My only gripe is that parking sucked.... Good thing I rode my motorcycle .
