Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts

Unless you are young and/or very mobile this place is a pain to navigate. From the parking garage on the premises, it took 2 elevator, an escalator, some walking, and 3 short sets of steps. If it hadn't been for the very nice people stationed at every doorway, every floor ready and willing to give information to reach the next guide, I would have been forever lost. Attractive building. Comfortable seats. Very friendly people to help guide you to your destination.

What an amazing experience The Kauffman Center is! This is somehow a large, yet intimate setting. The acoustics are beyond explanation other than to say they are an absolute marvel. Seating (specifically the legroom) leaves a little be be desired, but the venue itself, combined with the quality of the performances they have here will make you forget it in short order. The Kauffman Center will be the new Carnegie Hall in coming years. Get tickets to an event, any event, and see this wonderful KC gem before it becomes a national name (if it hasn't already).

Where do I start with this wonderful gem in the town I love? As with many music and performance halls, people find themselves having a personal connection to the space. I am no different. I've admired this Center from afar as it was being built and longed to experience a performance. Although the ticket prices are a little high to the average eye, it's worth every penny and more. If you know anything about performance halls/centers, you can truly understand and appreciate the cost of a performance in this space. Every little detail though out; acoustics, design, specially designed halls for ballet and symphony performances, every little curve is there for a reason. I could go on and on. (If you are interested in more detail, take a step inside and pick up a brochure) Unfortunately, these details take some work and money to maintain but the Kauffman Center does this with ease and grace. Like I said, people have personal connections. This is my little story.... I've wanted to experience a show but it simply wasn't in the budget. So how does an arts lover get around this? They volunteer! I love every second that I am in the Kauffman Center. I have worked behind the scenes at other "magical" places but this one is the absolute best for me. There is always something new to experience. The staff is second to none! The volunteer system is like a well oiled machine. The "crew" for every performance changes so I'm always able to meet some wonderful new people. On the truly special nights, I'm blessed with a wonderful conversation with a patron about their love of the arts too. Come enjoy the Arts in KC at the Kauffman Center. It doesn't get any better than this! The calendar is constantly changing and growing. If you are on a tighter budget, no fear. The Kauffman Center is a very nice place to enjoy some live entertainment. Parking is available directly south, and attached to the building, so access is easy. It's located right off of the highway and easily seen from any direction. The auditoriums are very well designed with many points of access, handicap accessibility, and ushers available to assist in any way they can. Seating is quite cramped, but has just enough room for my 6' body to fit without bumping legs. A nice experience I'll hopefully enjoy a number of times.

This place blows me away every time that we come. I have been here 3 times now and just recently on both sides. They have one side for the Symphony and is beautifully made with mostly wood all around. Great acoustics. The main hall for performances is very comfortable and there is not a bad seat in the house that I can tell. We sat in the Mezzanine and thought the seats were great. There is a parking garage on the south side that connects directly into the building.
