1492 New World Latin Cuisine

The food was absolutely amazing and the waiter was awesome. It was nice to be able to relax and enjoy my bestie's company without a lot of interruption. The waiter was extremely observant and friendly. We loved the fact he wasn't constantly bothering us, nor did he ask any questions while either of us had food in our mouths. He met our needs to a T! We will definitely be going back here!

This place is good. Can be a pretty busy and a but loud. Cool atmosphere, cozy. Clean. Service is pretty good. Food is good. The salsa is awesome. They have good fried plantains. Definitely would recommend to others

1492 has a small restaurant atmosphere that helps give it an intimate setting. The cuisine is good, but of the past three times we’ve come it’s been steadily getting less fulfilling. The drinks are good, I’m a big fan of Mexican beers. Every time we come here though we usually spend a decent amount of time talking about Waffle Champion across the street. If you’re looking for Mexican food then this is slightly different so go with an open mind and maybe you’ll be surprised.

Honestly, I was a little underwhelmed. High points, service was excellent and fast and the place was nice and clean. The menu we looked at on their website is NOT the menu they are handing out in the restaurant, neither in appearance or content. Also the place I think presents itself as a lot more upscale/high end than it actually is. I'd say mid-range at best, regardless of prices. Like, some creative menu items but basically on the level of a tex-mex place. Food: the duck bills (duck meat tacos) were really good, the high point of what we ordered. slightly sweetened, rich duck, with a little bit of spicy green sauce, in a nicely crunchy taco, well done. the Ban Mi tacos are a neat idea and with some work could be really good...there's very little of the pickled veg and there needs to be a lot more to balance out the extremely greasy (essentially bbq) meat. so strain some of that grease and adjust the meat/veg ratio and they would be grand. the oxtail tacos had good flavour, but again the meat was far too greasy. like, they're trying some neat things, but missing the mark on follow through and quality. the queso is basically big bowl of melted Velveeta with the smallest amount of seasoning or a few additives if you get one of the different kinds. if you get anything that doesn't contain an unusual meat or vegetable, it's essentially chain tex med. now, don't get me wrong, none of this is bad...just not the image or pricing this place is projecting. go in with that in mind and you'll be fine.
